Can I use the Hydrocolloid Blister Plaster Bandages on broken skin or open wounds?

Yes! The best sores to use hydrocolloids on are raw weepy wounds where the dressing has direct contact with the whole wound base. The worst blisters to use hydrocolloids on are blisters where the blister roof, albeit torn, is still in place. That’s because when you pull the plaster off, your whole blister roof is likely to be pulled off with it.

What should I do if the plaster doesn’t turn white, or turns white too quickly?

It’s normal for the plaster to turn white - that’s just a sign the hydrocolloid is absorbing fluids from the wound and creating a nice healing environment. It can’t really turn white too quickly, that’s a non-issue. However, when the white bubble reaches the edge of your plaster, that’s when you need to remove the plaster and apply a new one. If you’re needing to change your plaster more often than every 24 hours, switch to an island dressing, change these 2-4 times per day until the degree of weeping reduces. At the same time, make sure you’re doing everything you can to stop the blister-causing forces, like using an Engo patch on your shoe/insole to reduce any further friction.

Can I cut the Hydrocolloid Blister Plaster Bandages to fit smaller areas?

Yes you can. But you do want a margin around the blister to ensure the hydrocolloid adheres well, and so there are adequate hydrocolloid particles available to absorb your blister wound fluids. If you cut a hydrocolloid bandage to the exact size of the blister, you’ll be needing to change it several times per day, which is a waste, and actually not helpful to wound healing.

Is it safe to use the Hydrocolloid Blister Plaster Bandages while swimming or showering?

Absolutely. Hydrocolloids are waterproof. Just make sure you’ve got a good seal around the edge of your hydrocolloid before it gets wet, and rely on the fixation tape provided to ensure that watertight seal.

Can these bandages be used for blisters caused by burns or other skin conditions?

Burn blisters should be seen by a doctor before a dressing is selected. That’s because burn blisters are a little deeper than friction blisters. You should not use hydrocolloids on infected wounds, and you should seek medical opinion if you have elevated risk factors, such as diabetes and immunodeficiency. However, in essence, hydrocolloids are frequently and legitimately used on shallow open wounds where the wound base is weepy.

Can I reuse a Hydrocolloid Blister Plaster Bandage?

No! Hydrocolloid blister plasters are single-use only.
